PRODUCT - ALTERNATOR
Alternator (AC Generator)
- An AC generator that can charge the battery even at relatively low engine speeds.
- An electrical device that converts mechanical energy from the engine belt into electrical energy.
- AC generated inside is rectified to DC through diodes for vehicle use.
Rotor
- Generates magnetic flux; when current flows, one pole piece becomes N and the other S.
- Two slip rings on the rotor shaft contact brushes to deliver current to the coil.
Stator
- Laminated iron core wound with three stator coils.
- As the rotor turns, three-phase AC is induced in the coils.
Rectifier
- Uses six diodes to rectify three-phase AC into DC.
Regulator
- Keeps voltage constant regardless of load and speed; often integrated with the brush holder.
- Also embeds chips for various vehicle charging-related functions.
